The Hotel Nikko and Jon Handlery tie for "Best Dressed"

On Tuesday, September 27th, 2011, the Hotel Council of San Francisco held it's 20th Annual Golf Tournament Fundraiser.  Due to the generosity of all of you - our members and friends - we were able to come  together for a spectacular day of golf to raise funds in support of scholarships for local students through the Hotel and Restaurant Foundation.  For those of you who were unable to attend, the following recaps some highlights.  If you were there, we hope it brings back some great memories.

Players began the day by picking up their registration packages, golf shirts (courtesy of City Building), and player bags containing gifts from our Allied Members & Friends - Golf Towels (courtesy of Riegel), sunscreen (courtesy of USA Today), snacks (courtesy of US Foodservice), and assortment of "adult tastings" (courtesy of Southern Wine & Spirits), sleeves of golf balls (courtesy of Hilton San Francisco Union Square & City Building), collar stays (courtesy of Green Streets Cleaners) and the bag itself (courtesy of Recology Golden Gate) with a specially designed 20th anniversary logo (courtesy of Teri Nishikawa, Design/Sense).

Next, the players warmed up with a continental breakfast - Irish Coffee and Bloody Mary's (courtesy of Peerless Coffee & Tea and Southern Wine & Spirits), fruit (courtesy of Ernieco's Produce of the Pro's), and pastries (courtesy of Max's).  After trying their luck at the Putting Contest (sponsored by the Chancellor Hotel on Union Square), players found their carts (sponsored by City Building) loaded with lunches (courtesy of Daily Grill) and special 20th anniversary water bottles (courtesy of Private Springs Water) and set out for a fun day of golf!

With their best ball in play and the hope of winning the Hole-in-One prize of a three year lease on a Honda FIT (courtesy of Berkeley Honda), the Closest-to-the-Pin (sponsored by City Park) or the Longest "Marshmallow" Drive (sponsored by Mass Mutual), players enjoyed a wide selection of food and drinks out on the course - grilled sausages and hot dogs (courtesy of K&M Meats and Hyatt Fisherman's Wharf), It's It Ice Cream Sandwiches (courtesy of It's It), water (courtesy of Private Springs Water), Gatorade (courtesy of NRG Energy Center), beer (courtesy of DBI Beverage), and a variety of drinks (courtesy of Southern Wine & Spirits), including Palm Bay International at Tee #2, Skyy Spirits at Tee #8, and Jim Beam Brands at Tee #14.
A large selection of wine & liquor was donated by Southern Wine & Spirits for the Silent Auction

After the game, players made their way back to the club where at the "19th Hole (sponsored by NRG Energy Center) they speculated their odds at the raffle, Deck of Cards (sponsored by NRG Energy Center), the Silent Auction table, or Live Auction.  Players relaxed with a glass of "wine on tap" (courtesy of Jasper's) and helped themselves to Jasper's Jax (courtesy of Jasper's), as well as other delicious bites prepared by the Presidio's new chef Emily Damon.  Several special guests were in attendance including the Hotel Council of San Francisco's new Executive Director - Kevin Carroll, NFL Alumni - Dave Fiore and Jeff Bayer, Long Drive Professional - Ryan Winther, and Hooked on Golf Talk Show Host and our Master of Ceremonies - Mitch Juricich.
Returning Champions from the Handlery Hotel -
Greg Baker, Steve Martin, Kevin McEvoy & Bart Jackson

Closest-to-the-Pin Winners were Greg Baker, Ryan Miyamoto, Steve McMichael, and Grace Huang.  John Cope won the Longest "Marshmallow" Drive.  The Handlery Union Square Hotel's team including Greg Baker, Kevin McEvoy, Bart Jackson, and Steve Martin, were the returning champions (for the third year in a row!) for the coveted first place position.

Our thanks to the Presidio Golf Course staff for everything they did to help make our tournament the pleasure that it was.  On behalf of the Hotel Council of San Francisco and the 2011 Golf Committee, our thanks to our many sponsors, players, and contributors without whom this would not have been the exceptional fundraiser it was!

A special thanks to Mary Maxwell and Devan Lane for their hard work in planning and executing the 20th Anniversary Golf tournament and fundraiser.
