CurrenC SF

The SF Office of Financial Empowerment has a new direct deposit initiative called CurrenC SF (www.currencsf.org).  They are engaging with employers throughout the City to promote widespread participation in direct deposit and electronic payroll. A great (free) employee benefit, direct deposit can help thousands of working San Franciscans access the financial mainstream, reducing reliance on fringe financial services like check cashers and saving much-needed money for working families. Direct deposit also helps businesses cut costs and become more productive, and it benefits the environment as well. Please click here for more information.

Payroll Tax Alternatives

Thank you for all your work on this important issue for our Industry. We were able to gather feedback from 26 member hotels regarding the two alternatives that were being suggested to either replace or adjust the Payroll Tax program in San Francisco.  Many hotels reported being in support of the gross receipts alternative.  However, we also received strong feedback from some hotels in support of keeping the payroll tax.  The bottom line is that the uncertainty and lack of clarity around the Gross Receipts alternative has resulted in a consensus not being reached from our members on which alternative to support.

On Wed, April 25th, Kevin Carroll attended a meeting with Mayor Lee, Board President Supervisor Chiu and 40 other representatives from businesses across the city.  The purpose of the meeting was for the Mayor and City Officials to gain feedback from businesses on the Two Alternatives presented.   The city is looking to make a decision on which of the two alternatives to pursue going forward.     Please click here for more information.
