Peter Goldman

Peter Goldman started as a waiter at the Fairmont Hotel's Venetial Room in 1949. He was promoted regularly before being named general manager in 1968. Over a 30-year career, Peter moved into the executive ranks as the Fairmont became a national chain. He was appointed managing director of all the chain's hotels. In 1979, he left the Fairmont for the Hyatt hotel chain, serving as its regional vice president. He also worked as General Manger of the Hyatt Regency Hotel at the Embarcadero Center. His work over theyears also involved promoting San Francisco as a tourist and convention destination. He served on numerous civic and business associations. He was the chairman of the board of the California Hotel Association and president of the San Francisco Convention Bureau. In July 2001, Peter Goldman passed away, however, he is still remembered by his friends, colleagues, and admirers throughout the country.
The Hotel Council's Peter Goldman Award of Excellence was established in 1989 to honor that individual who, exemplifies outstanding education and decotion to our industry and demonstrates leadership with skills and energy that raise the level of service and perception of our San Francisco hotel and tourism industry. Peter Goldman, longtime leader and icon in the hotel community, washonored by the Council upon his retirement, as they established the Peter Goldman Award of Excellence. He was the first recipient of this prestigious award.
